About The Author of Real World Statistics

Nicole Hamilton is the founder of Simpler Math and creator of Real World Statistics: A Student’s Guide to Understanding and Using Data, a complete high school and introductory college statistics curriculum designed to help students move beyond learning statistical procedures and toward thinking like statisticians. She is an educator, instructional designer, and educational leader with more than 20 years of experience teaching mathematics, designing curriculum, and leading innovation in schools. She has served in senior leadership roles including Associate Head of School and Dean of Faculty.

Throughout her career, she has focused on a central question:

How can we design learning experiences that help more students engage with meaningful, challenging ideas?

She is the author of Real World Statistics: A Student’s Guide to Understanding and Using Data and the founder of Simpler Math, where she develops instructional systems that combine curriculum design, clear explanations, authentic applications, and intentional learning supports to help students build deeper understanding.

Her work has included classroom teaching, mathematics department leadership, online learning development, faculty professional growth, and the creation of digital learning resources used by students and educators.

Nicole has taught mathematics across a wide range of settings, including public schools, independent schools, online education programs, and college-preparatory environments. She holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Vassar College and an M.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education from City College of New York.

She believes that rigorous learning should not be defined by unnecessary complexity or barriers. The strongest learning experiences maintain high expectations while intentionally designing pathways that allow learners to access, understand, and apply important ideas.

Her work centers on making mathematics more accessible, meaningful, and connected to the way people reason, solve problems, and make decisions in the real world.
